Pathway Programmes in Australia
Pathway Programmes in Australia
Undergraduate
There are many pathways available for international students who have just completed their high school education in their home country. Some are eligible to apply directly; some are not (please check with UVIC if you are not sure).
Traditional Option
Foundation programme. It was designed specifically for international students. It is offered in colleges owned by universities or independent private colleges that have agreements with one or multiple universities. The standard duration of a programme is usually one academic year. However, there are shorter and more extended programmes. The start dates are usually in February and July. Some programmes have mid-year intakes in April and/or October. The duration of a programme would usually depend on chosen university, degree, academic background, and level of English language. After successful completion, students progress into Year 1 of the chosen Bachelor degree.
Australian Option
Diploma programme. It is a unique to Australia programme. It is available for both Australian and international students. It is offered by private colleges and TAFE. The usual duration is one academic year. It consists of only academic subjects related to the future degree. The start dates are usually correlated with the beginning of a Bachelor degree in the chosen university and are in February and July. After successful completion, students progress into Year 2 of the chosen Bachelor degree.
NB: please contact UVIC consultants for more details on available options for Diploma + Bachelor package.
Postgraduate
Australia does not have pre-Masters programmes. Most Master courses would not require the relevant Bachelor degree. However, there are Graduate Certificate and Diploma programmes available for those who would like to change or broaden knowledge within their specialisation.
